Royal College of Arts graduate Alice Potts presents 'SWEAT - Athens' an exhibition exploring the aesthetic capabilities of bodily fluids. Enhancing the crystallisation process of sweat from dancers and athletes, Potts creates crystalline footwear and accessories. As part of SHOWstudio's ongoing collaboration with the Onassis Cultural Centre, Nick Knight documents her work in a series of photos that highlight the power of humankind.
Conflating art with biology, Potts' exhibition examines perspiration through a new lens whilst referencing Athens' Olympic history. Potts will be staying in Athens for a whole year as an Onassis Fellow exhibiting her Masters' collection as part of the Athens Biennale in the Onassis Stegi Exhibition Hall. The SHOWstudio team travelled to Athens to document Potts' extra-ordinary exhibition.
To chime with the launch, SHOWstudio and the Onassis Cultural Centre curated a panel of experts. Chaired by Lara Johnson-Wheeler, the panel focused on Potts' work, discussing the new frontier between aesthetics, science, and biology. Alongside this, Johnson-Wheeler interviewed Stavros Karelis, Afroditi Panagiotakou, Sarah Mower, Royal College of Art's Zowie Broach and Potts herself.
